Day 103 April 13, 2011

Obesity among children and adolescents has almost tripled in the United States since 1980. About 17% of children and adolescents aged 2 to 19 are obese, putting them at higher risk for diabetes, cardiovascular disease and other serious illnesses, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The future are the children. First we need to model healthy behavior so that it won’t be a struggle for our children to know what “health” looks and feel like.Second we need to protect our children from becoming marketing pawns in the game of “profits above all”.

Day 101 April 11,2011

I know it must be challenging to change your behavior and life in order to be healthier. That’s what I attempting to do. As someone who takes care of ill people, I get confused when they continue to choose unhealthy behavior, it’s hard not to judge. But I think first  you have to look at yourself before judging others.

Ask, are you without blame? I feel hypocritical asking people to lose weight when I’m overweight, and I struggle. I struggle with time management, I struggle with my own insecurities and I struggle with being consistent with the healthy choices. I may be on a roll for a time then before you know it, weeks have past before I pick up the healthy habit routine again.

All I’m saying is change is not always easy. It’s not always fair but I believe if you go through change and give yourself a chance for a better life, you’ll be better for the exeperience.

Day 100 April 10, 2011

You know what’s funny? Even when you have the best intentions,if you’re not careful, you can get distracted and can get off track. That’s what’s been happening to me.

I feel like I can do all things when I’m alone and thinking about my goals.

When I step foot out the door and start to interact with others and deal with “stuff”, I can get off track.

It’s frustrating because I feel so bad when I’m not able to control my focus and accomplish my goals.

I guess I have to take the advice of Helen Keller. She said if you face the sun, you can’t see the shadows.

Staying positive and focused is probably the biggest gift I can give myself today.
